MIRI: MASwings has recently received the 2nd ATR aircraft in a ceremony in Toulouse France. The 2nd ATR is being deployed to Sarawak for the travelling public in East Malaysia.
The 2nd ATR took the sky on its inaugural flight from Miri to Mulu on the 29th March 2009. Most of the passengers were pleasantly surprised by the modern propeller aircraft with its advance technology and comfort seats.
The ATR inaugural flight to Mulu is a timely event to enhance the ‘ZOOM MULU’ package under the ‘ZOOM’ campaign launched by the Prime Minister last year. Mulu has much to offer with its diversity in eco-tourism such as the mulu caves, national park, 2,377 meters high sandstone pinnacle andPenan settlement.
The Mulu cave is a UNESCO World Heritage site, which will take your breath away with the largest cave chamber and the most extensive cave system in the world. MASwings is always looking ways to work together with the government to promote national integration and develop domestic tourism.
“MASwings is committed to promote tourism in Sarawak and Sabah. We want to play an active role in promoting products and tourist attraction and at the same time, giving back to the environment. We are very single minded in our purpose to serve the community and to connect the world to Sarawak and Sabah ”, said Regional Manager Sarawak, Haji Mohd Suffian Abdul Malik.
With the escalating global environmental issues, MASwings has also taken measures in support of the eco-tourism initiatives of the State to help sustain the environment. The advance technology made the ATR-72 a “green aircraft” with minimal gaseous emissions. Passengers can also look forward to the fully biodegradable and compostable meal box served in the ATR-72.
The aircraft is built in with business class as well as economy class cabin, giving a total of 68 seats. This increases the capacity by 36% more than the usual Fokker fleet.

With its ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500, ATR supplies state-of-the-art aircraft with the highest standards of comfort. The advanced six-blade propeller provides remarkably low noise levels. All ATR models are compliant with noise regulations and have a large margin with regard to Chapter IV (ICAO) noise regulations, effective 1st January 2006. The ‘-500 series’ feature the lowest fuel consumption per passenger and CO2 emissions of the regional aviation, thus contributing to make ATR the “Green Player” of the regional aviation.
